From the tourist point of view the year can be divided into four periods:

February until May:  Not only a very good time for hiking because the weather isn´t so hot but also to watch nature in blossom. After the winter rain nature explodes in an ocean of colour. It starts very delicate with cautiousness in the middle of January with the blossom of the almond trees but later the wild flowers put on a display of great splendour. In April until the middle of May the broom turns the mountain slopes to a bright yellow. You have still to reckon with rain and wind sometimes but for the most parts nice weather the degrees in the shade climb up to a pleasant level. All sights aren´t overcrowded (exception: Easter holiday).

May until September: The best time for sun-worshippers. A blue sky without clouds and with warm to hot temperatures. Due to the altitude of more than 700 Meters (2.300 feet) the heat is really pleasant because the air is dry and in contrast to the coast not sultry.  Most of the time the skin is cooled by a light breath of wind coming up from the valley. When the sun goes down to the horizon (the sunsets are nearly every day a spectacle) it is the best time for a long warm B.B.Q. evening. The stars and the lights of the villages in the distance sparkle and the wine tastes better than ever. A dream.....

October until November: Good for hiking with pleasant warm temperatures. Sometimes you have to reckon with rain or wind. The ocean is still really warm. The sightseeing can be done without queuing and it is also a good time for sightseeing tours with your car.

December until January: The so-called winter in the Axarquia is comparable with the April in England and Germany. In the night it can be really cool (normally not below 0 degrees C.) but during the day we often reach more than 20 degrees. There is a change of days with sunny sky, wind and cooler periods with clouds. But mostly the sun dominates even at this time of the year. Ideal for hiking, enjoying  nature and to escape from the stress of the Christmas season. Enjoy the spring while the people in Great Britain get cold in the muddy weather. And if you still want snow you find it in the Sierra Nevada. You will be able to see a long way at this time of the year and in the morning and especially in the evening you can watch the Atlas mountains in Africa and the ships on their way to the Straits of Gibraltar.
