The Finca Romántica is situated at the edge of an old olive grove in a secluded and spectacular location very near to the nature park Sierra Tejeda. The beautiful and original white village Canillas de Aceituno is only 2 km distance. You are almost in the centre of the Axarquia. Virtually unknown to most people it is situated between Málaga and Nerja, between the eastern Costa del Sol and the high mountains of Almijara and Tejeda, with the turquoise-blue Viñuela - lake in the centre.
|The scenery is particulary delightful and together
with the excellent temperate climate and the unspoilt nature the
is one of the most impressive parts of Southern Spain. You find a combination
of high majestic rocky mountains, placid hills and valleys and beautiful
costal area with many beaches and promenades. With the high mountains
to the North and West the Axarquia region is a large valley open to the South
and the Mediterranean Sea.
|In the wintertime the Sierras are sometimes covered with some snow but they protect the Axarquia against the cold wind from the highlands of Central Spain. The sun is warming up the sheltered valleys so that the daytime temperature climbs up to 15º-25º. The influence of the Sea and nearby Africa guarantees a mild climate with 326 sunny days per year.|
|In the summer the countryside never becomes humid.
The air isdry and clean because there is almost no industry. A steady light
breeze gives your skin a pleasant feeling. Many people from the north with
health problems like rheumatism, asthma or skin complaints report almost
unbelievable improvements and recoveries.
The higher up you go into the mountainous region of the Axarquia you will notice different shades of colors, the deep-purple Bougainvilla, the pink Almond blossoms, the red and yellow Cactus fruits and the flowers of the sweet-smelling jasmin.
|The people - the "Axarqueños" - are very friendly. If you are hiking in this area and you
try to talk to them in some simple spanish words you are often invited to
drink a glass of home-made wine. These wine growers are friendly hosts, bodily
bowed from the hard work in the "campo" but upright, proud and honest. They
live in their village community or outside in tiny white cottages in the "campo"
- where everybody knows everybody. To an increasing degree you find new houses
and villas as well, because many people from the northern parts of
Europe want to spend their holidays or their retirement away from the
cold and wetness of their home country.
|Many attractions of
Andalucia are within easy reach of the Finca. The beach of
Torre del Mar and
all the hurly-burly of the Costa del Sol are at a distance of about 10 km (as
the crow flies) - 25 minutes with your car. Other well-known small coast
towns with beaches in this area are
If you enjoy hiking you will find everything you need just outside your door. A lot of paths and tracks run through the valleys and hills. If you have higher levels in mind you can climb up the La Maroma (2.065 metres) in the nearby nature park Sierra Tejeda. Not only on the top of the mountain but also on the tracks of this park you have breathtaking views and you can watch for example eagles, vultures and ibex.
|Or do you prefer
to explore the famous dripstone cave Cueva de Nerja? It is only one
of many mostly small and unknown caves in the area.
For people interested in culture the world famous Alhambra in Granada is heaven on earth. As well Málaga the - capital of the province - tempts the visitors with two castles, many museums and the worth seeing old part of the town.
